Collapsible Core Plastic Mold Design
This mold project is a traditional collapsible core injection mold design solution with a complicated mechanism.
The upper sphere is a plastic part with 16 holes. 9 holes need separate slides to assist with demolding.

One part needs 9 slides, demolding outside as star. These slides are driven by “dog-leg” guide posts. The “dog-leg” guide posts here act as angle guide posts and wedges, requiring relatively high precision mold manufacturing.
The other seven holes are formed on the cavity side directly. This plastic sphere has a bottom sphere designed the same as the upper.
The mold is manufactured with precision equipment, and the parting line is slight. The sphere is repainted with rubber oil to hide the parting line. Appearance is perfect.
